Key Program Modules:
1. Escape Plans (Apartment-Focused)
- Create a fire escape plan with two exits from every room.
- Identify emergency exits, staircases, and balconies in apartments.
- Practice fire drills regularly, including children and elderly residents.
- Keep escape routes clear, with a designated meeting point outside the building.
- Ensure doors in your path do not require keys to open from inside
- Plan assistance for elderly or disabled residents.
- Remain outside until the fire department gives clearance.
2. Smoke Alarm Installation & Maintenance
- Install smoke alarms on every floor, bedrooms, kitchens, and storage areas.
- Test alarms regularly to ensure proper functioning.
- Place alarms at a height safe from children tampering.
3. Kitchen & Electrical Safety
- Never leave cooking unattended; keep flammable items away from stoves.
- Use timers and have a lid nearby for small grease fires.
- Keep a fire extinguisher within reach.
- Avoid overloading outlets, unplug unused devices, and inspect cords for damage.
4. Fire Extinguishers & Emergency Response
- Keep extinguishers in accessible locations.
- Learn the PASS technique: Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep.
- Inspect regularly for charge and damage.
5. Safe Evacuation from Smoke
- Stay low to the ground to avoid smoke inhalation.
- Close doors behind you to slow fire spread.
- Never re-enter once evacuated.
- Assign a responsible family member to guide children and elderly safely.
